Cupra has shown a camouflaged version of its upcoming electric city car, the Raval, at the IAA Mobility show in Munich. If you look closely, you'll see the wrap is a map of the Raval district in Barcelona. The production model will go on sale in 2026, becoming the brand's eighth model. The all-electric hatchback is Cupra's smallest and most affordable electric model, slotting in below the Born and part of the 'Electric Urban Car family' from the Volkswagen Group.

What size is the Cupra Raval?

The Cupra Raval measures just over four metres in length (4,046mm), with a width of 1,784mm and a height of 1,518mm. It has a wheelbase of 2,600mm, making it compact enough for urban use but still long enough to provide usable cabin space. It is roughly the same size as the new Volkswagen ID. Polo, its platform sibling.

What performance options are available?

According to Cupra, all versions of the Raval will have a sportier chassis setup than other cars on the same platform. Cupra says it has been designed to offer a more exciting drive than most small EVs, thanks to its 15mm lower suspension, sharper steering and a range of performance upgrades.

The range-topping Raval VZ version will produce up to 225hp and will include bucket seats, adaptive DCC Sport suspension, 235mm wide tyres on 19-inch wheels and a 'VAQ' electronic limited-slip differential.

What tech will the Raval have?

The Raval will be offered with two battery options, though full specifications have not yet been released. Other available features will include Travel Assist, which supports automated lane changes and traffic light recognition, Intelligent Park Assist and a 360-degree camera system.

What is the Electric Urban Car family?

The Volkswagen Group is expanding its EV offering with a new range of four compact electric cars known as the Electric Urban Car family, all set to launch in 2026.

This line-up includes two models from Volkswagen - the ID. Polo hatchback and the ID. Cross compact SUV - as well as the Cupra Raval and the Skoda Epiq, each designed with distinct styling to reflect their respective brand identities. All four cars are built on the updated 'MEB+' platform and feature Volkswagen's new unified battery cell, allowing for ranges of up to 450 kilometres.

When will the Cupra Raval go on sale in Ireland?

The production version of the Cupra Raval will launch in 2026. Irish availability and pricing are expected to be announced closer to the on-sale date. So, stay tuned.
