Peugeot's latest electric model, the E-408, has now arrived in Ireland. It gets a 58kWh battery pack, which gives it a potential range of up to 453km.
How much is the new E-408?

The E-408 is, impressively, exactly the same price as the entry-level 145hp 1.2-litre hybrid version of the 408, with a starting sticker of €38,995 for the Allure model. Or you can upgrade to a sporty-looking GT model for €43,995, although both get the same 210hp, 345Nm electric motor driving the front wheels.
How practical is the E-408?

Very practical. We know from driving the hybrid versions that the space in the rear seats is better than you'd expect from looking at the sleek shape, while the boot holds 471 litres up to the luggage cover.
It'll be quick to charge too, thanks to 120kW fast DC charging, allowing a 20-80 per cent charge in just over 30 minutes, or adding 100km in just ten minutes. There's an 11kW AC charging system as well, and you get a standard heat-pump heating system so cold weather shouldn't impact too hard on your range.
What about equipment?

There's a pair of ten-inch digital screens — instruments and infotainment — as standard, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital voice assistant, wireless phone charging, four USB-C sockets, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam mode, active lane keeping, blind spot monitoring, AGR-certified bucket front seats (that's the German bad back association), and an optional Focal high-output stereo.
When can I have one?

Pretty much right now. Peugeot Ireland (part of Gowan Auto) says that order books are open now, and deliveries will start shortly.
