Takeri previews new Mazda6

Stunning Mazda concept to become new Mondeo rival by the Paris Motor Show.

Mazda confirmed at the Tokyo Motor Show that, bar some minor changes (raising the roofline to give more headroom and losing the daft wing mirrors), the Takeri concept is pretty much what the new generation Mazda6 will look like. Zoom zoom indeed!

With the Takeri, Mazda sort of threw all of its eggs in the one basket with the car featuring the latest Kodo design language, the new SkyActiv technology and the new i-Eloop system - the world's first capacitor based regenerative braking system that promises fuel savings of up to 10 per cent.

Set to be unveiled in production form at the Paris Motor Show next year the Takeri/Mazda6 will be powered by the latest 166hp 2.0-litre petrol and 175hp 2.2-litre diesel SkyActiv engines with a Opel Ampera rivalling range extended EV also under consideration. An estate version of the car is also understood to be in development.

No official word yet on when we can expect to see the new Mazda6 on the roads but we would expect it to hit Ireland in early-to mid-2013.
