Updated Opel Mokka Electric launches in Ireland Updated Opel Mokka Electric launches in Ireland

Opel has launched the updated Mokka Electric crossover in Ireland, and it's arriving with a bigger battery than before.

Which battery is the Mokka getting?

This update moves the Mokka into line with its fellow Stellantis Group cousins, such as the Peugeot E-2008 and the Jeep Avenger, giving it the 54kWh (52kWh usable) battery pack and a 156hp electric motor driving the front wheels (that's up 20hp on the previous electric Mokka).

What kind of difference does that make?

Quite a bit of a difference, actually. The Mokka's official range jumps from 324km to 403km, and that 156hp comes with 260Nm of torque, so off-the-line performance is pretty brisk.

How much does it cost?

The updated Mokka has a starting price of €30,227 including rebates, and that gets you an entry-level SC with standard equipment that includes 16-inch alloy wheels, extended traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, driver drowsiness alert, forward collision alert, enhanced auto emergency braking with pedestrian detection, six airbags, cruise control with intelligent speed limiter, electronic climate control, ten-inch digital driver information display, ten-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, USB type C connectivity, DAB radio, Opel Connect, auto high beam assist, rain sensitive windscreen wipers and rear park assist.

Or you can upgrade to a Mokka Electric Elegance, for €32,570, which comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, heated driver and front passenger seats, a front centre armrest, keyless entry and start, adaptive cruise control, blind spot alert, HD touchscreen graphics with integrated navigation, wireless charging, electrically adjustable/heated/power folding door mirrors, tinted rear windows, electro-chrome rear view mirror, and front and rear park assist with flank guard and 180-degree panoramic rear view camera.

Finally, there's a €33,975 Mokka Electric GS which comes with a gloss black roof, 18-inch alloy wheels, a black logo and 'Vizor' front face trim, high gloss black front/rear bumpers, an integrated black tailgate spoiler, sports alloy pedals and an interior black vegan suede trim, together with 'Intelli-Lux' Matrix headlights, driver seat electrical lumbar adjustment and massage function, a six-way adjustable passenger seat, and two additional USB ports in the rear passenger cabin.

What about a high-performance model?

Oh yes, Opel is going to launch a GSE version of the Mokka Electric later this year, which will come with 280hp, 345Nm of torque, a trick front differential, and a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds.

Anything else?

James Brooks, Opel Ireland Managing Director, said: “Our Mokka is full of timeless character that makes it stands out in the crowd. We have sharpened its contemporary design and added a range of bright new body colours, and a new infotainment system. Already available in both petrol and hybrid ahead of the 252-registration period, we have now completed our powertrain portfolio with the arrival of the new Mokka Electric 403km range model.

“Even with more power and a longer battery range than its predecessor model, we are introducing this improved range model with particularly keen pricing to remove as many barriers as possible for customers embracing electric motoring. Indeed, our new Mokka Electric is priced under the petrol manual version in Elegance and GS trim. In all trims, the Mokka Electric is more cost effective than its Hybrid equivalent.”
