Skoda Vision O gets clever aerodynamics

Skoda is starting to reveal just a few more secrets of its Vision O concept car, which will make its debut at the upcoming Munich motor show.

What's the Vision O going to turn into?

Basically, the Vision O is a thinly disguised next-generation all-electric Skoda Octavia, in its popular estate form. The next Octavia, which will likely be on sale alongside its current petrol-powered brother, will use Volkswagen Group's new high-tech SSP electric car platform, which is said to be much more versatile than the current MEB setup, and more affordable too.

So what do we know now?

Skoda is showing off a bit more of the Vision O's styling, albeit only in a heavily darkened image and video. We know that the car evolves the recently-introduced 'Modern Solid' design language, adopted by the Enyaq and Elroq, and which will also be seen on the small Epiq electric crossover in Munich.

The Vision O keeps the Octavia's sensible estate car silhouette, but the rear pillar seems a bit more sharply angled and racy, more like an Audi A6 Avant, and Skoda says that the concept gets a dramatic split-section rear spoiler above the rear glass. There will also be T-shaped brake lights, with 'four-eye' LED highlights. At the front, it looks as if the leading edge of the bonnet gets distinctive 'castellations', with a pronounced dip in the centre, almost like a BMW 5 Series.

Anything else?

Oliver Stefani, Head of Design, said: "With Vision O, we are consistently advancing our 'Modern Solid' design language, boosting its emotional appeal and further refining our brand identity. New design concept also highlights our commitment to pushing boundaries and continuously bringing innovation to future automotive design. Clear lines emphasise simplicity, showcasing totally that we remain true to our brand values. Vision O is extremely practical for everyday use and brings surprising and thoughtful details."
