Volvo's replacing its (rather beloved) S90 saloon with an all-new, all-electric four-door that blurs the line between saloon and crossover.
How so?
Well, this new ES90 is definitely a saloon in its shape, and it's four-doors-and-a-boot layout, but it also gets a higher ground clearance than you'd expect, giving it a touch of the ride height and seating position of an SUV. The new ES90 arrives in Ireland later this year, or early in 2026, and will take on the likes of the BMW i5, Audi A6 e-tron, and the Mercedes EQE with a price tag of €82,100.
That seems like a lot

Indeed, and it is, but then the ES90 is boasting a much better range than those rivals, with a WLTP maximum range on one charge of 700km (that's for the all-wheel drive version with the 106kWh battery), and the ES90 also gets a high-tech 800-volt charging system that allows it to add an extra 300km of range at 350kW charging power in just ten minutes.
What else do we know about the ES90?
Well, it's not a conventional saloon, in that it's actually a fastback (like the Audi, but unlike the BMW and the Mercedes). We also know some of its equipment levels, and that it will come in Core, Plus, and Ultra forms. Core models get four-zone climate control, heated front & rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. The seats are upholstered in Nordico (a progressive material created from textiles made from recyclables such as PET bottles and bio-attributed material from forests in Sweden and Finland). Plus models get a heads-up display, a 360° camera, the Bose Premium Sound system and interior illumination with back-lit wood decor. Finally, Ultra versions come as standard with an electrochromic panoramic roof, tinted rear windows, ventilated front seats, active air suspension and the top-of-the-line Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 separate high-fidelity speakers throughout the cabin, including headrest and ceiling speakers.

As noted, the Core model starts from €82,100, while a Plus ES90 will cost €89,900, and an Ultra will set you back €102,400.
You'll be able to choose from a single-motor, rear-drive ES90, with a range of 654km; the twin-motor, all-wheel drive one with the 700km range, and a Performance model, with 680hp, and a range of 700km too.
What if I want an electric Swedish saloon that's lower slung?
Well then, be patient. The closely related Polestar 5, which will have up to 900hp and race-car ride-height, will be revealed in full at the Munich motor show next month.
