Audi pays respect to Japanese football

Garish one-off Audi A1 revealed in Tokyo - previews new limited edition model.

We were highly disappointed that the rumoured Audi TT concept didn't show its head in Tokyo. Instead there was a football juggling display before the A1 Sportback was revealed, then this, a one-off 'Samurai Blue' version of the three-door Audi A1.

'Blue Samurai' is the nickname of Japan's national soccer team, and while they are not known for their world-conquering skills, Audi points out that they're reigning Asian champions, while the women's team won their world cup this year.

The special A1 features the football team's and sponsors' logos throughout in a blue, white and red colour scheme. It's not subtle, thanks in no small part to the red-painted 18-inch alloys. They do appear to be of a new design though, so hopefully they at least get used on the limited edition A1 that Audi suggests will be influenced by the Samurai Blue model.

Thankfully the show car is unique and it'll be auctioned off with a portion of the profits given to charity.
