A new electric vehicle charging hub has opened at Tarpey's SuperValu in Cavan town. The site features high-speed chargers that can top up an EV with 100km of range in about six minutes, depending on the vehicle.
Located just off the N3, the new hub includes two 200kW chargers with space to charge four cars at once. Drivers can also pay using contactless cards, so there is no need to download an app or set up an account.
The new location is expected to benefit both local residents and drivers passing through the town on longer journeys. The site was developed in partnership between ESB and Tarpey's SuperValu.
The shop's owner, Sean Tarpey, said the new chargers align with other recent sustainability measures at the store, including the installation of solar panels. He said, “At Tarpey's SuperValu, we're committed to supporting the needs of our customers and community, both now and into the future. The installation of this new ESB High Power Charging Hub is an exciting development for Cavan Town, making EV charging more accessible and convenient. As more people embrace electric vehicles, we're proud to play a part in building a more sustainable future for the region. This follows other recent steps we've taken, such as the addition of solar panels on-site, to further support that goal.”
This is part of a wider rollout of high-speed chargers by ESB, which now operates over 1,600 public charge points across the island of Ireland. Around 50 of these hubs have high-powered units like the ones now available in Cavan. Francis O'Donnell, Head of eMobility at ESB, said the hub is part of the company's long-term plan to improve charging infrastructure across the country, saying, “At ESB, we're focused on delivering a seamless charging experience that empowers our customers. The new High Power Charging Hub at Tarpey's Supervalu Cavan is part of our long-term strategy to build a future ready network that supports the growing demand for fast, reliable EV infrastructure.”
