Porsche is launching special Black Editions of the Taycan electric saloon and the Cayenne SUV, which will be shown off to the public for the first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Just how black are we talking, here?

Not quite as black as you might think. The black paint has an underlying shimmer of silver, so maybe let's call it shiny black - equally, other colours are available for the Black Editions. However, all of the exterior trim has been very definitely blacked out for both the Taycan and the Cayenne, so the effect is a little more glowering and menacing than you'd find with the standard models.

Which bits are black?

The side window trims and the model designation at the rear are finished in high-gloss black. This is complemented by high-gloss black exterior mirrors, which are offered in combination with other exterior paint finishes exclusively on the Black Edition. The rear light strip with illuminated black Porsche logo also comes as standard. The black interior accent package and the black-brushed illuminated aluminium door sill guards are also included.

The Taycan these days also comes as standard with the Performance Battery Plus these days, which means you get 105kWh gross up from 89kWh, which gives the Taycan roughly an extra 80km of range.

What about the Cayenne?

The Cayenne Black Edition gets the Sport Design front bumper, with high-gloss black exterior mirrors and the Porsche logo, as well as the model designation at the rear. The interior is enhanced by a brushed-black aluminium trim.

There's extra equipment for both models as standard too, including Surround View cameras including Active Parking Assist, 21-inch wheels with centre caps featuring the full-colour Porsche crest, HD Matrix LED headlights (which are tinted on the Cayenne Black Edition), LED door projectors that show the Porsche logo, Comfort Seats in the front (with 14-way electric adjustment and memory function) with the Porsche crest on the headrests, a BOSE Surround Sound System including Dolby Atmos (with Electric Sport Sound in the Taycan) and black smooth leather trim. The Taycan also features an exclusive badge in the centre console bearing the 'Black Edition' designation and the vehicle keys come with a case also featuring matching lettering.

Do you have to have black paint?

Nope - the black bits are the trim, so you can have your Taycan Black Edition in Jet Black Metallic, Volcano Grey Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, and Ice Grey Metallic. The alternative colour palette for the Cayenne includes Quartzite Grey Metallic, Vanadium Grey Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic and Carrara White Metallic.

Of course, if you fancy spending lots, there's also the Legends, Dreams and Contrasts custom paint finishes.

You can have more custom parts - for a price, of course - including keys and case, the reversible luggage compartment mat, the floor mats, the vehicle documentation folder, the lid of the storage compartment in the centre console, and the door sill guards.

When can I have one?

Pretty much straight away. The cars go on display at Goodwood and order books are open now. Irish prices are yet to be set.
