Land Rover has confirmed that its high-performance Range Rover Sport SV is no longer a limited-edition vehicle but is now a full production model. To underline the SV's introduction as a full-time member of the Range Rover Sport lineup, there's a new SV special edition...
First things first - what's an SV?
SV is the pinnacle of the Range Rover Sport lineup, featuring a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine, developing up to 635hp and 750Nm of torque, which can accelerate the big brute from 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds. SV models have a top speed of almost 300km/h.
So, what is the special edition?
This is the Range Rover Sport Spinal Tap special edition... sorry, that should read the Range Rover Sport SV Black. Yup, this is a case of 'none more black', or as Land Rover puts it, “Range Rover Sport SV Black celebrates the timeless appeal of an all-black aesthetic. Distinctive and comprehensive black detailing, including for the first time, the Range Rover SV roundel and brand badges on the front grille.”
Is everything on this Range Rover black?
Pretty much, yes. There's both a Narvik Black body and a full Narvik Gloss Black Exterior Pack. There's also a black-painted carbon-fibre bonnet and gloss-black forged 23-inch alloy wheels with gloss-black brake calipers and gloss-black quad exhausts. Even the ceramic SV badge on the boot has been blacked out.
Inside, there's Windsor Leather for the seats finished in, inevitably, Ebony while there are 'Gloss Grand Black' finishers for all of the interior trim. Basically, if you've come looking for beige, you're in the wrong place.
Martin Limpert, Global Managing Director, Range Rover, said: “Range Rover Sport SV Black represents the essence of sporting luxury; a statement of audacious rebellion. We've created a vehicle that combines pure power and performance with a gritty, uncompromising attitude that demands attention. Range Rover's design team has gone beyond anything we've offered previously with black packs or options, giving every single exterior and interior element a sophisticated Narvik Black treatment; it appears to the eye, as if the vehicle has been dipped in gloss. We extend this attention to detail to new finishes for the first time on Range Rover, truly showcasing our craftsmanship.”
Is there any option other than black?
Thankfully, yes. There's also grey. That's for the Range Rover Sport Stealth Edition, which isn't an SV model, and which can be had with the regular plug-in-hybrid petrol or mild-hybrid diesel engines.
This one gets a Carpathian Grey Satin exterior with contrasting Gloss Black accents, paired with an either Ebony or Light Cloud perforated Windsor Leather interior.
There's also an optional Satin Protective Film - a factory-fitted, solvent-free option, which offers a rich and contemporary satin finish, as well as scratch protection.
When can I have one?
Well, the Stealth Edition is part of the mainstream Range Rover Sport lineup, so you can order one of those more or less straight away. The Range Rover Sport SV Black, meanwhile, will get a first public outing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on the July 10, and orders will open later this year.
Spirit Motor Group has confirmed Irish pricing for the new SV additions, however, starting at €289,420 for the regular SV, rising to €311,810 for the SV Black or €323,810 for the SV Carbon.
