Land Rover is creating (another) special edition Defender, and this one is focused on being the most off-road-y version of the current Defender yet.

That colour looks familiar...

As it should. Officially, this is Deep Sandglow Yellow, but the keen-eyed among you will have spotted the similarity to the dark mustard-like khaki colour applied to Defenders, Discoverys and Range Rovers as used in the classic 'Camel Trophy' global off-roading events back in the 1980s and 1990s when cigarette-sponsorship was cool.

If you don't like the smoking allusion, you can also have the new Defender Trophy in Keswick Green.

Those Camel Trophy events were pretty hard core

They were indeed, but the new Defender Trophy would probably be right at home on one, assuming you could find a time tunnel big enough to drive it through. According to Land Rover, it comes with a range of accessories which make it “the perfect companion for every expedition.”

So, what's been added to the Defender Trophy?

As well as the unique colours, there's gloss-black trim for the bonnet, body sides, brake calipers and towing eyes. As well as that, you can have the main paintwork finished with a matte protective film.

The wheels are gloss-black 20-inch rims wearing chunky all-terrain tyres, and there's more contrast black paint on the scuff panels and wheelarch extensions.

There's also special Trophy badging for the bonnet and the C-pillars, as well as at the rear, and there are even illuminated treadplates with the Trophy logo.

There are hard-wearing Ebony Windsor leather seats inside, and the dashboard structure is finished in the same colour as the exterior.

Any proper off-road bits?

Oh yes - there's an 'Expedition' roof rack with a deployable ladder, a side-mounted pannier finished in the same gloss black as the rest of the exterior trim, big mud flaps and an optional raised air intake with dust filter.

When can I have one?

The Defender Trophy will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, and it's already available to order in Ireland, although numbers are limited and it costs a chunky €130,200.
