If any of you have been thinking: “Well, I'd quite like to have a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, but I'd rather if it was lower, sleeker and just a bit cooler,” then we have some good news for you. Hyundai's going to make an Ioniq 6 N.

Is this where we should use that Steve Carell 'It's happening!' GIF?

Absolutely. We've known for some time that Hyundai was planning a hot version of the ultra-sleek Ioniq 6, but now we have the proof that it's coming. Hyundai has teased us with a series of darkened images showing the Ioniq 6's wind-cheating form beset with a big rear wing, a chunky body kit and smoke pouring off the wheels because someone's turned on Drift Mode.

Is this basically the Ioniq 5 N but with a different body?

Yes, which is totally unsurprising as the two cars share the same platform. That means a big 84kWh battery, ultra-fast 238kW charging and presumably a better range than the Ioniq 5 N's 412km.

The Ioniq 6's body is inherently more aerodynamic and it generally does about an extra 40km on the WLTP test compared to the regular version of the Ioniq 5, so we can expect to see something similar here.

How extreme is the Ioniq 6 N going to be?

Very. For now, we're assuming that it will use the same 650hp two-motor layout, with 770Nm of torque and a 0-100km/h time around the 3.4 second mark.

Hyundai has also confirmed that the Ioniq 6 N will feature “a wider stance, lightweight wheels and a large wing spoiler” as well as “Embodying N's three core performance pillars - 'Corner Rascal', 'Racetrack Capability' and 'Everyday Sports Car'” Presumably that means it will get the Ioniq 5 N's Drift Mode, imitation gear changes and active engine sounds.

Shut up and take my money!

Well, quite. However, you'll have to wait a bit yet. The Ioniq 6 N is due to be revealed to the world at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, and it should go on global sale towards the end of this year, although of course that might mean that it'll take a bit longer to come to Ireland.
