Audi is quickly expanding the third-generation Q5 SUV line-up with the addition of full plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) models, to go with the pre-existing mild hybrids. These new PHEVs will be badged 'e-Hybrid'.
What are the specifications of the Q5 e-Hybrid?
The PHEV drivetrain will be offered in both 299- and 367hp specifications, and these can be fitted to either the regular Q5 SUV or its Sportback spin-off.
They are also quattro models, meaning four-wheel drive for the PHEVs, and with a 20.7kWh (usable) battery pack there's an official all-electric driving range of up to 100km for the e-Hybrid Audis. The 367hp version runs 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds, while the 299hp derivative isn't too far behind at 6.2 seconds.
What are the charging times and speeds like for the Audi Q5 e-Hybrid?
The maximum recharging rate is 11kW no an AC outlet, at which speed the battery will require two-and-a-half hours for a full 0-100 per cent top-up.
How much does the Audi Q5 PHEV cost in Ireland?
Irish buyers are looking at the 299hp Q5 costing from €67,955 as the SUV or €70,765 for the Sportback, while the 367hp variant is quite a bit dearer at €77,955 or €80,155, respectively. The PHEV Q5s will be available to order here from the middle of this month.
For our market, the 299hp model will come with S sports suspension and three-zone climate control as standard. Upgrading to the 367hp Q5 will see enhanced LED head- and taillights fitted, on top of the extensive equipment of an S line Audi in the first place.
Do I lost boot space if I opt for the Q5 as a PHEV?
Afraid so - it's the typical PHEV lament. Other models of the regular SUV have 520 litres of cargo capacity with all seats in use and 1,473 litres with the second row folded down, while the Sportback comes with 470 and 1,388 litres accordingly.
But in the e-Hybrid twins, the SUV's boot is trimmed back to 438-1,358 litres, while the Sportback is down to 433-1,300 litres.
