Renault has revealed the vision4rescue, a new concept vehicle designed to support emergency services with cutting-edge technology and clever design features.
Developed by Renault and Software République - a consortium made up of seven French companies - the vision4rescue serves as a mobile command centre aimed at helping emergency teams respond more quickly and effectively to incidents.
The project builds on Renault's 15-year collaboration with fire services across 19 countries and was developed in partnership with three fire brigades.
Can you go into a little more detail on the car?
Based on the Renault 4 E-Tech electric, the vision4rescue is a fully functional vehicle equipped with the all-wheel-drive system previewed recently in the Renault Savane concept, along with a body raised by 15mm to cope with rough terrain. It integrates communications tools, data analysis capabilities and space for a drone - all designed to give emergency teams greater situational awareness.
What can the vehicle do?
The vision4rescue acts as a mobile control hub. Its boot transforms into an office space, with a sliding desktop and dual screens connected to a computer. The on-board equipment enables teams to control the drone and maintain communications even in disaster-stricken areas where networks might be down.
Storage compartments hold essential gear such as helmets, tablets and walkie-talkies, all of which can remain charged via the car's built-in electrical system.
How was it designed with emergency services in mind?
Firefighters were directly involved in shaping the vehicle's design, both inside and out. The cabin includes fire-resistant seat materials made from recycled firefighting suits, while details such as a reflective rear door strip and easily accessible communications equipment have been added for use in challenging environments.
Externally, the vehicle wears distinctive "Combustion Red" paint with high-visibility yellow-green accents and emergency service markings, ensuring it stands out in operational settings.
What technology powers its capabilities?
According to Renault, the vision4rescue brings together close to 20 connected solutions, developed by Software République partners from fields such as AI, connectivity and cybersecurity. The integrated observation drone, antennas housed in the roof capsule and smart data systems enable responders to analyse and coordinate their efforts in real time.
Is this just a show car?
While not a production model, vision4rescue is a working demonstration of how Renault and its partners see future emergency vehicles evolving. Its features reflect real-world input from emergency professionals, and the aim is to help standardise technologies used by first responders, ensuring quicker and more efficient rescue operations.
