Chinese car maker XPeng has revealed its new P7 sports car, penned by French designer Ferrag and expected to compete with the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT. As well as the clean, modern style, the car will come with AI technology and a “smart cockpit”, although there's no official word on whether the car will come to Ireland just yet.

It looks smart…

Although it has four doors, and XPeng is open about the P7 - which replaces the old P7 sold in other markets - being a five-seat saloon, it definitely has the looks of a big grand tourer. The long nose and swooping roofline remind us slightly of the Jaguar Type 00 concept, while there's something Polestar-ish about the rear end.

From these images, we can see the big alloy wheels, the panoramic glass roof and the sharp details, including the steep front grille and jutting front splitter. There's a pronounced rear diffuser, too, and the back door is almost hidden in the bodywork. Light design is also in evidence, with a full-width LED strip across the front of the vehicle, and another across the rear.

What else do we know about it?

Apart from the fact it was designed by Farrag, not an awful lot. XPeng has said the car will lean heavily on technology, with “AI-powered luxury” and “smart driving” in the cabin. Quite what that means in real terms is yet to be announced, but there's clearly a sizeable amount of AI power in the cabin.

XPeng has also promised a “smart cockpit,” suggesting plenty of screens and driver interfaces on the dashboard, although there's no word on what form they will take.

“I'm very excited that the first official pictures and video are now visible to everyone,” said Ferrag. “The original P7 was a milestone for XPeng and a turning point in China's EV landscape. With this new generation, we set out to design a pure electric sports sedan that could amaze at every angle. This car is our dream—refined through countless iterations. In my eyes, the all-new XPeng P7 is a work of art, shaped with emotion and purpose.”

When can we expect to see it on the road?

XPeng hasn't really said when the new P7 will arrive, but the new model is expected to launch within the next 12 months. However, there's no official confirmation that the car will come to Ireland, so we may not see it anytime soon.
