Toyota has announced that it's expanding the bZ4X electric car lineup with a second model. Say hello to the bZ4X Touring.

How is this different to the regular bZ4X?

Well, it's longer and a little taller for a start. The standard bZ4X definitely counts as an SUV, but it's quite a sleek, low-roofed car by SUV standards. This bZ4X Touring takes the basic structure of the existing model and stretches it up and out a bit. In fact, it's 140mm longer and 20mm taller overall. Toyota says that the cargo capacity has increased by a third, and that brings it to a massive 600 litres.

It looks a bit familiar…

It should do, as not only does the bZ4X Touring unsurprisingly take a lot from the style of the current, standard, bZ4X it's also closely shared with the recently-announced Subaru TrailSeeker (or electric Outback if you prefer). The two cars are basically identical under the skin.

How far will it go on a charge?

From its 74.7kWh battery, Toyota claims an impressive range of up to 560km, and the battery can be recharged at 11kW on AC power, or up to 150kW on DC fast-charging power. The battery is clever, too, as it incorporates a new water-cooling system and a preconditioning function, which can be activated either manually or automatically by navigating to a fast-charging station. That also allows Toyota to offer an impressive battery warranty - as long as you keep the bZ4X Touring serviced every year at a Toyota main dealer, then the battery is warrantied for up to ten years, or - wait for it - one million kilometres (yes, we said that in a Dr Evil voice). There's also a decent towing weight of up to 1,500kg.

What about the interior?

It's not too dissimilar to that of the standard bZ4X, quelle suprise. The digital instrument panel sits up close to the base of the windscreen, which means you don't need a head-up display projection, and there's a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

When will it come to Ireland?

Soon-ish. Toyota Ireland says that the bZ4X Touring will arrive here in “the first half of 2026.” It's going to be a busy 12 months for Toyota on the electric front, with an upgraded standard bZ4X due soon, plus the new C-HR+ all-electric crossover.

Zoë Bradley, Head of Marketing Communications and Corporate Affairs at Toyota Ireland said: “The new bZ4X Touring incorporates everything Irish drivers love about Toyota and gives even more with additional space, power, and a sleek yet rugged exterior. With a WLTP range of up to 560 km and extended battery care, it's built for busy families and long journeys, combining Toyota's signature reliability with cutting-edge electric technology. As Irish families look to make more sustainable choices, the bZ4X Touring is a standout addition to Toyota's electrified lineup. Given strong expected demand, we encourage drivers to keep informed about the new model at Toyota.ie.”
