MG Ireland has announced the prices for its new S5 electric SUV, the car that replaces the old MG ZS EV in the lineup.

So, how much is the new S5?

The new electric crossover will arrive in Irish dealers in June, with a starting price of €29,995. That entry-level 'Excite' model comes with a 49kWh battery giving it a range of up to 340km. It can be recharged at up to 120kW on DC chargers, giving a 10-80 per cent charge in 24 minutes.

Standard equipment includes wireless phone charging, electric seat adjustment, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instruments, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full MG Pilot suite of safety systems, offering features like active emergency braking, blind-spot detection, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.

Unique to the MG S5 EV is MG Pilot Custom, which allows the driver to configure and store their preferred settings.

Is there a bigger battery?

Yes - for €33,495 you can upgrade that Excite version to a bigger 64kWh battery, which gives a range of up to 480km. There's also an Exclusive model, which comes only with the bigger battery and a range of up to 465km.

Exclusive spec adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, rear privacy glass and lumbar support.

“The MG S5 EV is our most complete and refined EV yet,” said Andrew Johnson, National Sales Manager, MG Motor Ireland. “It brings together the best of MG - driving fun, real practicality, high-tech comfort, and outstanding value - all in one stylish SUV package.”

What about performance?

All versions of the S5 come with the same 170hp electric motor, which can push the new MG from standstill to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds. There are also selectable driving modes - Normal, Sport, Comfort, Snow and Custom.

Paint options include Black Pearl, Cosmic Silver, Arctic White, Dynamic Red, Urban Grey, and the standout Electric Blue. Excite models feature 17-inch alloys, while Exclusive steps up to 18-inch wheels.

What else is MG up to?

As well as the new S5, MG is also rolling out its special offers for Irish car buyers for the upcoming '252' registration period, which starts in July.

MG HS plug-in hybrid Irish price announced

As part of that, MG is offering a trade-in bonus of up to €2,500 for its hybrid models, including the HS plug-in hybrid, as well as the MG 3 Hybrid+ (which gets a €1,500 trade-in boost) and the ZS Hybrid+ (which gets the same €1,500 boost).

HS prices start from €40,995 with a 4.9 per cent APR finance package; the ZS Hybrid+ starts from €28,995 with a 5.9 per cent finance package; and the MG3 Hybrid+ starts from €23,995 with the same 5.9 per cent finance rate.

Those trade-in boosters can also be used as a deposit contribution, depending on how you want to purchase your car - MG Ireland says that it wants to maximise flexibility for its customers.

There's also a very tempting offer for the MG4 EV electric hatchback, which normally has a starting price of €30,995, but for which MG Ireland is currently offering a €4,000 discount, which brings the price down to €26,995, or you can have zero per cent finance on the full price instead.
