Toyota Ireland has just launched the two-seat commercial version of the latest Land Cruiser. It's arriving in Ireland with a starting price of €57,192 ex-VAT, which is a lot more affordable the the €140,830 asked for the passenger-spec seven-seat version.

First all-new Land Cruiser in 15 years

The new Land Cruiser Commercial will hit Irish roads in June, and along with the passenger version, it's the first all-new Land Cruiser in 15 years, with distinctive retro-look styling and a high-tech new interior. Indeed, as Toyota puts it, the Land Cruiser “combines retro aesthetics with cutting-edge technology and raw power, making it a standout choice for drivers tackling rugged, off-road terrain.”

This being the Commercial version, it's going to have to work for a living, and so it uses the same 2.8-litre diesel four-cylinder engine as the HiLux pickup, with 204hp and 500Nm of torque, delivered as low as 1,600rpm, powering all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

2.5-tonne towing weight

The Land Cruiser Commercial can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 12 seconds, and has a rated fuel consumption of 10.6 litres per 100km. It can tow up to 3.5 tonnes of braked trailer loads.

While it looks deliciously retro (definite shades of both the 1970s J40 and the 1980s J70 which, amazingly, is still in production in Australia) the new Land Cruiser is decidedly high-tech under the skin. There's electric power steering, replacing the old hydraulic rack, while you can monitor your Land Cruiser's vital remotely, thanks to the MyToyota app.

High-tech cabin

There's also wireless connections for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera (with its own washer jet - a thoughtful touch), and front and rear parking sensors. Inside, there's a choice of a nine-inch or 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, along with a driver's digital display that measures either seven inches or 12.3 inches, depending on the model. There's dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats (well, there are only front seats in this model), keyless entry and ignition, and a powered tailgate with a separate opening rear glass.

Ahead of the arrival, Zoë Bradley, Head of Marketing Communications and Corporate Affairs in Toyota Ireland, said, “The Land Cruiser has long been a symbol of resilience, reliability, and adventure, and this all-new model takes those qualities to the next level. Blending modern-retro styling with advanced technology and improved performance, the next-generation Land Cruiser is designed to take on everything Ireland throws its way - from farm tracks to rugged backroads. Loyal fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Commercial model, with pre-orders already rolling in. Demand is expected to grow, so we encourage customers to order early to avoid disappointment.”
