Ohme adds Multicar EV charging to app

Cork-based electric vehicle (EV) charging company Ohme has come up with a new ‘Multicar’ function on its app for people who have more than one EV within their household. The feature is designed to help those who might have one business EV and one personal EV manage and separate their charging costs and timings better.

How does it work?

The Multicar function of the Ohme app allows people to register more than one EV to a single household, then using the software to switch between the EVs when choosing which car to charge.

Up until now, anyone owning more than one EV had to change their main car on their Ohme account or alternatively alter the charging amount to suit the second EV. The Multicar makes it much easier to switch the vehicles now, allowing the relevant driver of each EV to get the exact charging schedule and level of charge without the risk of incurring any extra cost.

David Watson, Ohme’s CEO, said: “Innovation and constant progression are core values at Ohme. This new Multicar function in our app is a great example of those and a major step forward for the growing numbers of households with more than one EV. This eagerly awaited addition to our app just underlines how Ohme always strives to ensure that no driver is left behind in the e-mobility transition.”

Personal v business use

Multicar’s main benefit is allowing Ohme users to easily differentiate between personal and company EVs, with their associated charging costs included for each vehicle - this is particularly useful if the business EV user is, for instance, trying to reclaim the costs of home-charging for expenses. Rather than sifting through all charging cycles for all EVs, now the app will list the times the business EV alone was charged in a separate list to the personal EV.=

It also has a benefit for guests to a household who might wish to charge their EVs while they’re visiting, with other EVs easily able to be added to the Ohme Multicar account.

As per existing features of the single-car app, Ohme Multicar owners will be provided with individual data for each vehicle on the account, giving a full and detailed breakdown of every EV’s charging sessions - showing the total kWh consumed during each charge, with costs broken down by day, month or year as required.

Trusted by major manufacturers

Ohme has unique software and ‘dynamic’ charging technology, which means the domestic EV-charging periods are automatically adjusted to take best advantage of lower-price charging periods.

It is the official charger provider for a number of major carmakers who sell EVs in Ireland, including Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and the Volkswagen Group. Ohme has also recently picked up two industry accolades, one for its innovative smart ePod charging unit, and the other for ‘Best Tariff Integration’ in the 2024 What Wallcharger? Awards.
