Jenson Button to race in Dublin

Former World Champ will race McLaren-Mercedes F1 car around streets of Dublin.

Has anybody noticed all the resurfacing work taking place along the streets of Dublin? Turns out the inevitable traffic jams brought about by the road-works are all Jenson Button's fault... well sort of.

The Formula 1 ace was revealed as the main draw of the much anticipated Bavaria City Racing Dublin that is due to take place on June 3 next year. Thanks to Vodafone Ireland Button will race his McLaren-Mercedes F1 car around the circuit that starts at the Convention Centre, continues along Customs House Quay before crossing Butt Bridge, chicanes at D'Olier Street, zips past College Green and the Central Bank on Dame Street before reaching the chequered flag on O'Connell Bridge.

Speaking at the announcement Gavin Collins of Bavaria City Racing, commented, "We are delighted to be able to announce that the Vodafone-McLaren F1 team is coming to Dublin to be a centrepiece of the Bavaria City Racing Dublin experience. They are a premier F1 team and Jenson is one of the leading drivers in world motorsport. Our thanks go to the Vodafone Ireland team who were instrumental in ensuring that Jenson and the team will be in Dublin next summer."

Bavaria City Racing events feature demonstrations by professional racing and have been taking place in Moscow and Rotterdam since 2006. At the last event in August some 500,000 spectators turned up and over 150,000 people are expected to line the streets when the event visits Dublin with attendance free for the vast majority.
