Irish prices announced for new Mazda CX-80

What is a CX-80 when it’s at home?

The CX-80 is effectively a stretched version of the CX-60 and can offer a choice of six or seven-seat layouts. It’s available with either a 327hp plug-in hybrid 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine (which offers up to 60km of electric range on a full charge of its 17.8kWh battery - and it’s one of the few PHEV models to offer a full seven-seat layout) or Maxda’s recently-introduced 3.3-litre 254hp straight-six diesel engine. Mazda says it keeps a diesel engine variant on sale because “[We are] committed to a multi-solution approach to sustainable mobility and the principle of the right solution at the right time.”

Describing the CX-80 as “Crafted in Japan”, Mazda says that the big SUV: “Combines progressive design anchored in Japanese aesthetics with outstanding on-board accommodation flexibility, superior technologies and features common to premium SUVs in this segment, and the signature driving performance delivered by every Mazda.”

How much is the new CX-80 in Ireland?

Prices in Ireland start from €61,380 for the plug-in hybrid or €72,940 for the 3.3 diesel. The base spec is Exclusive-Line, which includes three-zone air conditioning with vents for the third row of seats, a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen (which still uses the tactile click-wheel controller as well as a touchscreen), 18-inch alloy wheels, black leather upholstery, driving modes including “off-Road" and "Towing", a powered tailgate, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and chrome roof rails.

What options are there?

Above this level, the CX-80 range splits into Homura and Takumi. You can think of Homura as dark and sporty, while Takumi is lighter, brighter, and more luxurious.

Homura spec - €66,280 for the PHEV and €76,640 for the diesel - gets you a driver facial recognition system that automatically adjusts the electric seat, cabin temperature, and infotainment settings when you climb on board, 20-inch alloy wheels, black Nappa leather seats and black roof trim, and a six-seat layout with ‘Captain’s Chairs’ in the centre row and walk-through access to the rear row. Homura Plus spec - €68,280 for the PHEV and €77,840 for the diesel - adds a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera system, a Bose audio system, and also comes with the six-seat ‘Captain’s Chair’ layout.

Takumi models - €67,430 for the PHEV and €77,790 for the diesel - come with 20-inch grey metallic alloy wheels, white Nappa leather seats, maple wood door trim, and the facial recognition system. Above that, there’s Takumi Plus - €69,430 for the PHEV and €80,140 for the diesel - which comes with a panoramic sunroof, Bose stereo, the 360-degree camera, and a central console between the rear Captain’s Chairs, which includes cup holders storage, and seat ventilation.

Anything else I should know?

Only that there are two new paint options for the CX-80 - Artisan Red, which carries on from Mazda’s traditional Soul Red but which is darker and classier (think the colour of a really expensive red wine), and Melting Copper, which is shiny and has faint undertones of pink.
