Mazda previews 2013 saloon

The Takeri concept shows how good the 2013 Mazda6 could look.

Mazda disappointed us with news that it is halting production of the RX-8 four-door coupé, but the Japanese manufacturer has just gone and cheered us up again with the first pictures of the Takeri saloon. It doesn't take a genius to work out that the next Mazda6 will draw inspiration from this show car.

The stunning looking concept will make its global debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show alongside other products of the 'Kodo - Soul of Motion' design language: the Shinari concept and the production ready CX-5 crossover SUV - the first Kodo inspired vehicle to hit showrooms.

Like the CX-5 the Takeri saloon features Mazda's latest Skyactiv technology including the Skyactiv-D diesel engine, Mazda i-stop (stop-start) and the company's first regenerative braking system that converts wasted kinetic energy into electricity to power the vehicle's electrical equipment.

The 42nd Tokyo Motor Show will take place at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre in December.
