Short-list for Van of the Year announced

Six new vans have been short-listed for the 2012 Continental Irish Van of the Year.

The Irish Motoring Writers' Association (IMWA) has released the list of vans that are contenders for the 2012 Continental Irish Van of the Year title. The decision will be made in the coming weeks, with the winner to be revealed at an awards ceremony in the Convention Centre in Dublin on 17 November.

Six vehicles are eligible for the 2012 award:

  • Citroen Relay

  • Fiat Doblo Workup

  • Fiat Doblo NP

  • Fiat Ducato E5

  • VW Caddy EcoFuel

  • VW Crafter

The Van of the Year jury is made up of nine members of the IMWA. Gerry Murphy, IMWA Chairman and also Chairman of the IMWA Van Jury said: "Without a doubt, the economic downturn is having an effect on the number of new vans that are being launched on the Irish market, however this year’s field of runners for the Continental Irish Van of the Year are a quality line up of vehicles and any of them would be a worthy winner of the title."

"In these tougher times, businesses and small operators really depend on their commercial vehicles to be reliable and cost efficient," said Paddy Murphy, Continental Tyres Ireland. "The choices of our experienced IMWA van jury are a valuable guide for Irish van owners who are thinking of replacing or upgrading their vehicles in the coming year."

The 2011 Continental Irish Van of the Year was the Mercedes-Benz Vito.
