Renault throws ‘WT5’ party for new 5 EV

Birthday celebration at the Pompidou Centre to celebrate the new Renault 5 EV.

Renault, pleased as punch with the early reception to its new 5 EV electric hatchback, is throwing a massive party in Paris to celebrate its on-sale arrival.

Music and dance

The WT5 - yes, it stands for ‘What the 5’ - party will be held on the 23rd of April at the Pompidou Centre in the heart of Paris. It will be “an original performance of music and dance set against a vibrant backdrop.” The Renault 5 itself will be the show's star, and the new electric hatch will be showcased on stage in five ‘scenes’ - each one turning the spotlight on the spirit of Renault 5 E-Tech electric. Performances by two iconic French figures of street culture and contemporary art - visual artist Cyril Lancelin and choreographer Sadeck Berrabah - will form the centrepieces of these scenes.

Pop art and sculpture

Lancelin, known by his artist name of Town And Concrete, will create background and foreground scenery for the cars, using dramatic pop-art-style images, and sculptures in the same bright paint colours that you’ll find on the cars themselves. Dancer and choreographer Berrabah is recognised for his show ‘Murmuration’, a hypnotic performance in which he develops his own choreographic style based on the geometry of motion. Leading his troupe of 250 dancers, Sadeck has conceived and created an original performance to reflect the emotion inspired by this all-electric pop icon. Finally, the world-renowned harmonie de la Musique de La Garde Républicaine will also be present to close the show, with a line-up of 60 musicians.

Free entry

Members of the public will be invited to see all of this, and the Renault 5 EV itself will be on display in the reception of the Pompidou Centre in three of its iconic colours—Pop Yellow, Pop Green, and Midnight Blue - from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on 23rd April. From 23rd to 26th April, members of the public will be able to stroll around and admire huge sculptures in pop art colours created especially for the event by Lancelin. On the 23rd, there will be two live shows - at 5.55pm and 7pm - for up to 5,000 people and it’s all free. This is just the start of the Renault 5 party, which will continue through the summer at the French Open Tennis event at Roland Garros, and at a special ‘Maison5’ in the heart of Paris.
