Toyota goes racing

Old Toyota MR2 racer gets new lease of life with Lexus V6 engine.

A team of Toyota nuts will take on the Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone in England next weekend with a special MR2 Roadster.

Team Rogue Racing is entering the 24-hour race with a supercharged, V6-powered MR2. The Lexus-sourced motor develops around 350-400hp, which will allow the 1,100kg MR2 to take on competitors driving Aston Martin, Lotus and Porsche cars in Class 3.

The team is hoping for a class win and, barring unforeseen problems, expects an overall finish in the top 20. The four drivers all started racing in the MR2 championship and enjoy backing from Toyota GB as well as sponsorship from Microsoft.

The technology company will be using the event to promote Forza Motorsport 4 for the Xbox. Demonstrations of the game will take place in the paddock.

Racing starts at 4pm on Saturday 1st October.
