Performance car looks for the battery-powered Hyundai Kona.

For the first time, Hyundai is giving the electric version of its Kona crossover the N-Line treatment. N-Line is, of course, derived from Hyundai's range of high-performance N-badged models (the N bit comes from both the famed Nurburgring race track, where they're all tested, and the Namyang engineering centre in Korea, where they're all created).

Sporty-looking electric Kona

Previously, the electric Kona would have been too sensible and too focused on range and economy, but now the electric car market has matured to a point where a sporty-looking Kona Electric makes total sense.

To become an N-Line model, the Kona Electric gains unique front and rear bumpers, stylish side skirts, and a set of N-bespoke 19-inch wheels. There's also the usual smattering of N-Line badges about the place.

Sports seats

Inside, there are sports seats with the N-Line logo, as well as red contrast stitching and red details for the steering wheel and dashboard. Hyundai says that the idea is to: "Focus on providing a captivating driving experience without compromising on comfort and functionality."

Other N-Line additions include a sportier steering wheel, glossy black door mirror caps, metal pedals, an optional two-tone black roof, and black headlining in the cabin.

Two versions of the N-Line Kona Electric will be offered; an N-Line and an N-Line S. As standard, the N-Line gets cloth sports seats, while the N-Line S gets an 'Eco Alcantara' and leather interior. That Eco Alcantara is a man-made suede created from 57 per cent recycled polyester.

64kWh battery as standard

Irish prices and specifications are yet to be confirmed but the Kona Electric N-Line and N-Line S will both get the 64kWh battery as standard. There's no official word yet on whether the N-Line's extra bodykit and larger 19-inch wheels affect the range, which stands at a maximum 514km for the regular Kona Electric.

The Kona Electric N-Line is expected to hit European roads (and dealerships) in the spring and should be in Ireland in time for the 242 July plate change. The Kona Electric N-Line will launch with a distinctive version painted in Serenity White Pearl with a two-tone Abyss Black Pearl roof.
