As much as €7,000 knocked off the price of the all-electric Cupra Born hatch.

Cupra Ireland has announced a dramatic round of price cuts for the electric Born hatchback. As much as €7,000 has been knocked off the Born’s price list, depending on the model.

Following the ID.3 lead

In doing so, Cupra is following Volkswagen’s lead, which has seen significant price cuts for the VW ID.3, with which of course the Born shares its chassis, batteries and motor. The Born price list now starts at €36,697 including all available grants and rebates. That’s for the 58kWh battery pack and the 204hp rear-mounted electric motor, giving a maximum range 417km on the WLTP cycle. That’s a saving of €5,037 on the previous price.

Big battery model

Next up is the 231hp ‘e-Boost’ model, which uses the same 58kWh battery, and which now costs €40,520 - a saving of €6,895. Finally, there’s the big-battery long range version, with the 77kWh battery and a range of up to 551km, which now costs €46,226 - a drop of €7,184. Cupra says that “Customers who wish to experience sporty, all-electric driving from Cupra this ‘241’ period can avail of incredible savings on selected Born models.” Standard equipment for the basic Born includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, bucket seats, ambient lighting and internet-connected services.

Zero per cent finance offer

The Cupra price cuts are part of a general trend of lower prices for EVs, and seems to show that the cost of electric cars is at last starting to come down, as car makers find more efficiencies in how they’re made, as well as dealing with price-cutting competition from the big Chinese brands. There’s also a zero per cent finance offer in place which means that monthly repayments on a Born start from €229.
