Citroen has introduced its latest electric offering to the Irish market with the launch of the e-C4 X.

According to the French carmaker, the e-C4 X combines "the elegance of a fastback silhouette with the modern attitude of an SUV". Initially, the e-C4 X will be available exclusively with an all-electric powertrain, with petrol and diesel models set to arrive later this year.

Irish pricing and specification

Pricing for the e-C4 X starts from €39,967, or customers can opt for monthly payments of €368 with 3.65 per cent APR finance. There are four grades from which to choose: Feel, Feel Pack, Flair and Flair Pack.

The entry-level Feel grade comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, a 10-inch touchscreen, keyless entry and start, and automatic dual-zone air conditioning.

The Feel Pack adds Advanced Comfort Seats, a driver's head-up display, Citroen Smart Pad support and My Citroen Drive Plus.

The Flair grade includes a heated leather steering wheel and front and rear parking sensors with 'top rear vision', while the range-topping Flair Pack adds an Alcantara interior and heated front seats.

A mode 3 charging cable for on-street charging is included as standard equipment across all grades.

All-electric powertrain and charging

The e-C4 X launches initially as an all-electric variant in Ireland. Equipped with a 50kWh battery and a 100kW electric motor, the Citroen comes with an official WLTP range of up to 360km. Maximum torque of 260Nm allows a 0-100km/h time of 9.5 seconds in Sport mode. In addition to Sport mode, drivers can also choose from Eco and Normal driving settings.

The e-C4 X can charge on a DC outlet at up to 100kW, and the battery can replenish at a rate of approximately 10km/minute, with 80 per cent charge achieved in 30 minutes. Using a 7.4kW wall box, charging takes 7.5 hours with a single-phase supply, reducing to 5 hours with a three-phase electricity supply of 11kW output. Owners can manage vehicle charging, including pre-setting charging times to take advantage of off-peak electricity prices via the car's touchscreen interface or the My Citroen app.

Design and features

Citroen boasts of innovative design for the e-C4 X that combines the elements of a fastback silhouette, an SUV and a spacious four-door saloon.

The front-end features Citroen's signature rounded design, with chrome chevrons stretching across the width of the body, flanked by LED headlights.

The rear features distinctive new LED lamps positioned either side of the boot opening. The boot's capacity is quoted as 510 litres.

Inside, the e-C4 X is fitted with Citroen's Advanced Comfort Seats, featuring special foam to enhance the overall comfort, while the Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension system is claimed to provide the brand's "magic carpet ride" effect - i.e. a smooth and comfortable driving experience.

Citroen's sustainability efforts

Manufactured in Madrid, the e-C4 X contains 135kg of recycled materials and is produced using 30 per cent solar energy. By incorporating recycled materials and utilising solar power, Citroen aims to minimise its environmental impact and promote a greener future.
