Volkswagen Ireland’s Daffodil Day donations

Volkswagen Group Ireland employees raised more than €20,000 for The Irish Cancer Society.

Volkswagen Group Ireland employees participated in Daffodil Day last week, raising more than €20,000 for The Irish Cancer Society.

Volkswagen Group Ireland (VGIE) and Volkswagen Financial Services employees volunteered to help with the Irish Cancer Society's annual fundraising event. On Friday, VGIE's Liffey Valley headquarters' sales, marketing and administrative staff joined forces to collect donations from shoppers at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.

Their efforts collected over €10,000 in donations, which Volkswagen Group Ireland and Volkswagen Financial Services matched, bringing the total raised to more than €20,000. The impressive total reflects both the generosity of the Irish people and the commitment of Volkswagen Group to its 2023 charity partner.

Commenting on the achievement, Volkswagen Group Ireland Managing Director, Carla Wentzel, said: "I am incredibly proud of our staff members who came together to raise such a significant amount for the Irish Cancer Society. Cancer affects so many families in Ireland, and it is heartening to see our employees making a difference in their own way. Their commitment and enthusiasm to help this important charity is a reflection of Volkswagen Group Ireland's core values, and we look forward to continuing to support important causes in the future."

The Irish Cancer Society was chosen as the VGIE staff's charity partner for 2023 at the beginning of the year because they wanted to support a cause that benefits so many people in Ireland.

Alan Bateson, Volkswagen Group Ireland's board member responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility, said: "Volkswagen Group Ireland's success in raising over €20,000 for the Irish Cancer Society is testament to the company's commitment to supporting important causes. Staff members came out in force to choose the Irish Cancer Society as our 2023 charity partner at the start of the year. It is inspiring to see everyone getting involved in fundraising activities and making a positive impact on the lives of people affected by cancer."

The Irish Cancer Society is the country's leading cancer charity, offering support and services to cancer patients and their families.

The funds raised by Volkswagen Group Ireland will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society's vital work, which includes funding research, providing support services and raising awareness about cancer prevention and early detection.

Daffodil Day was first observed in Ireland in 1988 and quickly became a national fundraising initiative. Daffodil Day has become one of Ireland's largest and most successful charity events, with hundreds of thousands of volunteers and donors each year.

Daffodil Day has become a symbol of hope and solidarity for those affected by cancer in Ireland and around the world, in addition to raising much-needed funds for cancer research and support.

Volkswagen Group Ireland employees held a bake-off fundraiser on Tuesday as part of their ongoing support for the Irish Cancer Society. And, with such a solid start to their 2023 fundraising campaign, they are on track to break the previous year's charity fundraising record.

Commenting on the fundraising efforts, Rosemary Simmons, Head of Fundraising at the Irish Cancer Society, said: "The Irish Cancer Society would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the team at Volkswagen Group Ireland for donating their time to help us raise vital funds this Daffodil Day. The funds raised during Daffodil Day will play a vital role in providing free support services and care to people affected by cancer while also helping to develop ground-breaking cancer research. The Irish Cancer Society typically receives only three per cent of its funding from the Government, therefore we rely on the generosity of the public to ensure that we can be there for cancer patients and their families, when they need us most. On behalf of everyone who will benefit from your support, thank you."
