AA issues midsummer plea

AA reminds drivers to use lights during long days and short nights of midsummer.

The AA has asked drivers to use their lights in the twilight period of morning and evening as the bright sun and darker ground can make it hard for drivers to see other road users.

Research shows that when Daytime Running Lights (DRL) are used cars are noticed more easily and accidents rates are reduced. Using dipped headlights also makes your vehicle easier to see by other road users.

An EU Directive will make it compulsory for all new vehicles to have Daytime Running Lights (DRL) fitted as standard from February 2011 onwards. The message remains "be safe, be seen".
