New Audi urban concept

Audi's star of Frankfurt will be the two-seat urban concept car.

Audi will reveal a new type of city car at the Frankfurt motor show when it lifts the covers off of the urban concept.

The urban concept is a 1+1 seater where the passenger sits diagonally behind the driver to maximise leg and shoulder space. Entry to the car is achieved by sliding the canopy back and stepping into the car, while inside, the steering wheel and foot pedals can be adjusted to suit the driver.

The frame of the urban concept is made from carbon fibre, while the 21-inch wheels sit out in the open with flashing strips of LED lights mounted on the wheels' protective plates. Power for the urban concept comes from two e-tron electric motors and they are supplied by a lithium-ion battery pack.

Audi says the urban concept has been developed solely along the principles of lightweight construction, efficiency and reduction. The company says: "The result is a concept car with no unnecessary weight, and one that concentrates on the pure essence of sporty motion."
