Lexus wants to create a racier image at Las Vegas SEMA tuning show.

Lexus - yes, the same Lexus best known for quiet, refined, comfortable hybrids - is attending this year's SEMA tuning and modifications show in Las Vegas with a sextet of high-performance concepts.

600hp IS saloon

First up is the DSPORT IS600+ Project build, a highly tuned version of the (not sold here) current Lexus IS saloon. This one has been given a twin-turbo V6 engine, pumping out a whopping 600hp. It also gets an Artisan Spirits wide-body bodykit, carbon-fibre bonnet and boot lids from Seibon, a unique dashboard design by MoTeC Motorsports, and Volk Racing 19-inch wheels with Michelin 4S tyres.

Next up is LS600 Urban Concept - this is a massive and very white version of Lexus US-only large, luxury SUV. This one, says Lexus, has been "designed for urban cruising" and comes with an Artisan Spirits multi-piece bodykit, carbon-fibre bodywork including the front spoiler, rear bumper, bonnet, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser, and Brembo B-M8 front brakes with eight-piston calipers and 412mm front discs.

Off-road LX600

It's not the only LX600-based concept - there's also an LX600 Yeti version, which is the anthesis of the Urban Concept. This one's designed for camping. It gets new front and rear bumpers and side steps made from a mixture of 10-gauge mild steel and aluminium, which can absorb off-road knocks and bumps, an aluminium rack system for storage panniers, which includes a cooler box, foldable chairs, a shovel, and a roll-out canopy. There are even some custom-made pillows thrown in. The LX600 Yeti also comes with carbon-fibre front wings, Vossen-forged 20-inch alloy wheels, and some all-terrain tyres.

Want to get further off-road than that? Well, then there's the GX460 Overland concept. Based on yet another big Lexus SUV that doesn't come to this side of the Atlantic, the Overland gets cutaway front and rear bumpers, special Toyo off-road tyres, and a Yakima roof-top tent.

High-performance RX500h hybrid

Want something a bit more Euro-focused? How about a hot version of the new RX luxury SUV? This is the RX500h F-Sport and is a modified version of the proper production model (albeit one that's not confirmed for Ireland yet) of the 366hp RX500h. It gets a matte violet metallic wrap and 22-inch alloy wheels from Rays Engineering, together with Michelin 4S tyres.

The final SEMA concept from Lexus is one we've seen before, and it's the all-electric Lexus Electrified Sport. Not modified for the show (ironically), this is arguably the most important Lexus at SEMA from a global perspective, and it previews an all-battery replacement for the legendary V10-engined LF-A supercar. Lexus says it "symbolises the evolution of driving and design that Lexus aims to realise through electrification" and that it's a "BEV sports model with low ride height and challenging proportions."
