MG 5 EV estate gets a major upgrade for 2023.

MG has given the rather well-regarded 5 EV estate a major upgrade for 2023.

Only EV estate for now

The 5 EV is one of those rare EVs that's not either a hatchback or a crossover. In fact, until the rather ritzier and vastly more expensive Audi A6 e-tron Avant arrives on the market next year, it's the only electric estate you can buy [What about the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo? - Ed].

For 2023, MG has given the car a huge round of revisions, the most obvious of which is the changes made to the styling. Up front, the big grille of old has gone, replaced by a sleeker, beakier nose which retains the front-mounted charging point behind a flap. LED headlights are now standard, while Excite models get standard 16-inch wheels, and Exclusive models have 17-inch rims. The rear lights look a little sharper than before, too.

Irish pricing for the 2023 MG 5

Standard equipment for the €34,645 Excite model includes MG Pilot advanced electronic driver aids, automatic LED headlights and taillights, roof rails, rear parking camera, adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Exclusive versions cost €37,895 and come with rear privacy glass, leather style interior with electric seat adjustment and heated front seats, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror and a 360-degree camera.

Range remains the same

The cabin also comes with a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is now free-standing and mirrors that of the MG 4 hatchback. You'll also find a new digital instrument screen behind the steering wheel while the cabin has been given a general quality going-over.

Space remains the same as before, which means you get the useful 479-litre boot, which expands to 1,456 litres if you fold the back seats.

Also unchanged is the battery, which remains at 61kWh capacity (gross) or 57kWh (net), giving you a one-charge range of around 400km.
