Divers Alert Network comes to Ireland next week.

We're all becoming vastly more aware of climate change and the havoc it wreaks on our planet, but we're probably less aware of the huge damage that rising global temperatures cause to the oceans.

Damage to the oceans

The Divers Alert Network (DAN) aims to change that and is travelling around the UK and Ireland promoting greater awareness of the dangers of rising temperatures and the consequent acidification of ocean waters.

DAN - which was originally established to promote safer SCUBA diving techniques and diver safety - will be represented on this trip to Ireland by Alana Alvarez and Manu Bustelo, the organisation's sustainability experts. They'll be visiting Dublin, Cork and Galway on their tour and will be driving around the country in an electric Hyundai Kona.

They will be holding events at the Dive Academy in The Aran Islands, Oceanaddicts in Kinsale, Oceans of Discovery Dive Center in Robert's Cove in Cork and OCEANDIVERS in Bray.

Hyundai Kona EV

That Hyundai Kona (which has a 64kWh battery and a range of more than 420km on a charge) will be kept topped up by IONITY 350kW chargers, of which there are currently five locations in the country. IONITY says that it uses only renewable energy for its chargers, ensuring that journeys made using its facilities are as low carbon as possible.

"We want to do more than just provide 100 per cent renewable electricity at our charging stations. That is why we support initiatives such as DAN Europe and their Sustainable Tour in educating the public, so everyone can take the right steps and make a positive contribution to a healthier planet. Travelling to and from mainland Europe emissions-free and carbon-neutral is absolutely possible with IONITY, with 1,841 high-power chargers providing only and exclusively electricity that is generated from renewable sources of energy," said Andreas Atkins, Country Manager UK & Ireland, IONITY.

Partner with IONITY

"We are grateful to have such an engaged partner in IONITY that is passionate about driving the change with us and contributing to a sustainable development of our oceans," said Manuel Bustelo, Sustainability Consultant, DAN Europe.

Founded in 1983, DAN Europe is an international non-profit medical and research organisation dedicated to the health and safety of divers. It serves as the diving community's one-stop source for peace of mind services. DAN Europe's efforts seek to prevent injuries and promote the overall well-being of divers worldwide, providing the most accurate, up-to-date and unbiased information available on issues of common concern. They conduct underwater diving research and provide educational programs to create a more alert diving community.
