Porsche Club Ireland is to host a fundraiser in aid of the Irish Community Air Ambulance.

Porsche Club Ireland has announced that it will host a new fundraising event in and around the Cork region on Saturday, July 23rd.

Magical mystery tour

The Eircode Challenge Mystery Tour, run in aid of the Irish Community Air Ambulance service, will see drivers heading to a number of locations based purely on their Eircode, which also serves the function of raising awareness of just how important Eircodes are to the emergency services.

"The importance of knowing your Eircode and being able to find an Eircode in a hurry cannot be stressed enough," said Sandra Golden, the Porsche Club's southern region organiser. "Having the correct Eircode to hand is a crucial aid to the emergency services, including the Community Air Ambulance, saving them vital time in locating a person in distress."

Importance of air ambulance

The Irish Community Air Ambulance works in partnership with the National Ambulance Service and responds to serious and life-threatening emergencies from its base in Rathcoole in north Cork. The charity also has critical care teams on the ground in Dublin, Mayo and Donegal and plans to expand this service further, something which, the Irish Community Air Ambulance CEO, Micheál Sheridan, said, the Porsche Club fundraiser would help the charity to deliver.

"Our crews are tasked to some of the most serious emergencies," said Sheridan. "We have five advanced and critical care rapid response vehicles on the road in Donegal, Mayo and Dublin, staffed by emergency medicine doctors who volunteer their time and provide hospital-level interventions at the scene."

"The specialist equipment and medical supplies used by our critical care doctors comes with a high price so we are extremely thankful to Porsche Club Ireland for hosting this unique fundraiser. It will also help to support the expansion of our advanced and critical care service to more locations across Ireland."

Donations at the ready

Porsche Club Ireland's president, Denis McGill said that the club was "very excited" about the fundraiser and hoped that it would become an annual event in aid of the air ambulance service.

"Collection buckets will be at the starting location, which is yet to be revealed and other locations too," he said. "So keep an eye out and see if you can spot these beautiful cars as they explore the wonderful Cork locations and try to win the Eircode Challenge."
