Mercedes Ireland has launched the eVito Tourer, an electric passenger version of its Vito panel van.

Mercedes has launched a passenger version of its eVito electric panel van in Ireland, the eVito Tourer, featuring seven or nine seats and a 350km battery range.

Spacious shuttle

The eVito Tourer is aimed primarily at commercial operators for use, for example, as a taxi or hotel shuttle rather than at families and private users like the more luxurious Mercedes V-Class and electric EQV models.

As long and short wheelbase versions of the eVito Tourer will be offered, the arrangement of the seating will depend on which version is chosen. The longer model clocks in at just over 5.1 metres in length meaning there's plenty of space inside for those that need it.

According to Fergus Conheady, Mercedes' commercial vehicle sales manager in Ireland, the eVito Tourer is "a low-emissions, reliable and flexible carrier, that gives customers a platform on which to demonstrate their eco-friendly credentials."

Power units

Similarly to the eVito panel van, the electric Tourer gets a substantial 90kWh battery pack providing a range of around 350km. Power comes via a 204hp electric motor driving the front wheels. According to Mercedes, the eVito Tourer can be charged from 20 per cent battery life to 100 per cent in 60 minutes or from empty to 100 per cent over a five-hour period using an 11kW charge point. 50kW fast charging ability comes as standard though a 110kW option is also available.

As the Tourer is aimed more downmarket than the V-Class and EQV, the interior doesn't feature the same digitalisation as its posher stablemates. As such, it does without the MBUX control system making do instead with a plainer dashboard, but which can be specified with a 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring. The way the battery is mounted under the floor means it doesn't intrude on cabin space.

Safety features include Crosswind Assist and Attention Assist, the latter a system designed to detect driver fatigue and provide a suggestion that the driver take a break.

Pricing

Irish pricing for the eVito Tourer will be announced in due course.
