Jaguar C-X75 is 'concept of the year'

Jaguar's production-bound supercar was named America's favourite concept.

Jaguar's plans to bring the C-X75 into production have been given a further boost with the show version winning the Concept Car of the Year Award in the annual North American Concept Vehicle of the Year held in Detroit.

The C-X75 also scooped the gong for Most Significant Concept Vehicle of 2011, putting the Brit ahead of concepts such as the Audi Quattro, Mazda Shinari and Porsche 918 RSR Hybrid.

Awards juror Chris Poole said: "The Jaguar C-X75 is one of the most visually arresting cars ever. Call it aggressive elegance. The novel turbine-based range-extender hybrid powertrain recalls the Chrysler Turbine Car, but looks ahead to what could be a practical alternative to conventional power sources."

Accepting the award, Jaguar's Design Director Ian Callum said: "We are extremely proud to have been named the Most Significant Concept Car of the Year. We're at our best when we're breaking the mold - making our cars stand out for all the right reasons. C-X75 is an exciting project for us and a clear statement of Jaguar's intent to continue creating bold, innovative and beautiful performance cars."
