Free home charger with the Honda e

Tie-up with Energia also gives Honda e buyers cheaper-rate electricity.

Honda Ireland has announced a tie-up with energy supplier Energia which will give anyone buying the oh-so-cute Honda e electric car a free home charger.

20 per cent discount on electricity price

The Honda e - which is short on range but long on awesome styling, cabin, and driving experience - costs from €29,995 (grants-inclusive) but Honda Ireland's partnership with Energia means that buyers will now have the chance to save themselves some cash in the long run. That's because Honda e owners will now be able to switch to a new Energia tariff that will save them a claimed 20 per cent on their energy bills, as well as getting a free, installed, home-charging point for their car.

It should be pretty hassle-free, too. According to Honda, all customers have to do is to check their SEAI grant eligibility and Energia will take care of the rest.

All Hondas electrified by 2022

Speaking at the announcement today, John Saunders Sales and Marketing Director for Universal Honda Ltd. said: "With a greater focus on environmental issues we are witnessing our customers looking to seek cleaner mobility and energy choices here in Ireland. The expansion of our EV network represents our commitment to reflecting this change as we transition towards Honda's 2022 goal, where our entire model range will be electrified. Therefore, we are delighted to be partnering with Energia who pride themselves on providing 100 per cent green electricity and together we are helping to improve our environment. Under this partnership all eligible Honda e customers will receive a free home charging system plus a saving of 20 per cent on green electricity making the transition to owning an electric car as easy as possible. We all have a part to play in securing our futures and choosing how you power your home or car can make that happen".

More Honda e dealers

Gary Ryan, Managing Director of Customer Solutions at Energia Group commented; "At Energia we are committed to clean energy generation and usage that benefits homes and businesses across Ireland and contributes to the country's climate action targets. Through our smart home solutions and renewable developments, emerging technologies are a core part of our business. As such, partnering with Honda, a globally renowned and innovative automotive manufacturing company, is a natural fit. A central plank in the Governments Climate Action Bill and national effort to reduce emissions is the adoption of electric vehicles with a target of close to one-million on Irish roads by 2030. Honda will play an important part in these efforts and as Ireland's greenest electricity supplier, we are delighted to partner with them in supporting this transition."

The news comes as Honda Ireland expands its specialised electric dealer network to seven, bringing Slaney View Honda of Carcur, Co. Wexford and John Adams Honda from Portlaoise, Co. Laois, into the Honda e fold. That brings the total number of Honda e dealers to seven.
