Behold the new Batmobile

Gordon Murray has turned his hand to more important things than the McLaren F1, such as a new Batmobile

The ultimate crime fighter has called on the ultimate car designer to come up with a new set of wheels for the mean streets of Gotham City. Gordon Murray, the brains behind the McLaren F1, has designed the latest Batmobile, which will be used in a live stage show.

Running on a hydrogen fuel cell and featuring a "breathable skin", the new Batmobile runs on virtual wheels so it can drive silently to catch out criminals. It also has force-field generators to "oppose gravity and lift the Batmobile to a levitation position 40mm above the ground."

Of course, it wouldn't be a Batmobile without laser guns and an anti-detection system. There's also a carbon-ceramic afterburner, which should look good in the dark of the stage show that kicks off in Manchester on 19 July.

Gordon Murray said: "We're proud to have designed the new Batmobile and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to apply advanced materials and concepts to create a unique take on one of the world's most iconic vehicles."
