Sharp-looking Kia EV6 electric crossover arrives in Ireland in October.

Kia Ireland has announced prices for its much-anticipated EV6 electric car, which will go on sale in Ireland in October.

€50,000 with SEAI grant

The EV6, which is a larger and more crossover-ish car than it looks in the photos, will have a starting price of €55,000, which should be reduced to €50,000 for private buyers assuming that the €5,000 grant for buying an electric car is still in place by then. Kia says that its Irish dealers are able to take orders for the car, starting today (10th May).

510km one-charge range

"Making the EV6 available to customers for dealer order at this stage in the car's journey - shows the excitement, interest and passion that this forward-looking, state-of-the-art battery electric vehicle has already created," said Ronan Flood MD of Kia Ireland. "The huge buzz around the Kia EV6 is unlike any other model we have brought to market and it is proof that electric vehicles can be fun and are getting Irish motorists energised when it comes to considering sustainable mobility."

That €55,000 starting price gets you the standard model, which uses the new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) chassis, which it shares with the also-imminent Hyundai Ioniq 5. In basic form, that means a 77kWh battery, a 229hp electric motor driving the rear wheels, and a one-charge range of 510km on the WLTP cycle. Standard equipment will include 19-inch alloys, dual 12.3-inch curved driver display screens, Kia's UVO Connect online services, charcoal grey 'vegan' leather upholstery with 'premium relaxation seats,' LED headlamps and a smart power tailgate.

GT-Line model and cheap IONITY charging

You can also upgrade to a GT-Line model for €59,345 (less the €5,000 SEAI grant for private buyers) which comes with the same battery and motor, 20-inch alloys, suede and vegan leather seats (ventilated in the front), blind-spot view monitors, 'augmented reality' heads up display and a panoramic sunroof.

Because Kia is part of the IONITY charging group, which currently has six multi-charger stations in Ireland, delivering up to 350kW rapid charging. At that rate, Kia says the EV6 will go from a ten per cent charge to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes or will add 100km in less than five minutes. For the first year of ownership, all EV6 drivers will get a discount from the standard IONITY price of 79c per kWh to just 29c per kWh.
