Ford boss sees sales reaching 85,000 in 2010

Ford Ireland's Chairman and Managing Director Eddie Murphy predicts car sales this year reaching 85,000 units.

Ford Ireland's Chairman and Managing Director Eddie Murphy predicts car sales this year reaching 85,000 units. Commenting on figures released by the CSO, Murphy said, "The May 2010 car sales figures are good news for ourselves in Ford and for the wider car industry in Ireland."

"The government scrappage scheme is obviously continuing to have a beneficial effect on the market. It is heartening that the Ford Focus and Fiesta have taken the top two positions respectively in the sales charts so far this year."

"Overall, considering the detail of the May and year to date sales figures, it would seem that car sales in Ireland will finish the year at around 85,000 - a considerable increase on last year's figure".

The CSO figures show Ford as the market leader for May, followed by Volkswagen, Toyota and Renault.
