25 years since McLaren won the classic race with the legendary F1.

It's now 25 years since McLaren pulled off an against-the-odds outright win at the Le Mans 24hrs with the legendary F1 supercar. Suitably, the company has decided to mark the silver anniversary with a special edition of the current 720S supercar.

298 laps incorporated into chassis number

Sadly, that doesn't mean it comes with Ueno Clinic stickers down the sides, nor with JJ Lehto in the driver's seat, but there are some choice options fitted to the new 720S Le Mans.

Obviously, that includes a special dedication plate in the cockpit, with a 'McLaren 25 Anniversary Le Mans'. All of the cars' chassis numbers will also begin with the number 298 - the number of laps completed by that 1995 F1.

Outside, you can choose from two paint options - 'Sarthe Grey' or 'McLaren Orange.' Either way, the lower body sides, the rear bumper, and the lower front bumper will be painted in a special 'Ueno Grey' and there's a 'McLaren 25 anniversary Le Mans' logo on the lower body side panel.

Roof-mounted air scoop

Up top, there's a gloss black finish for the roof air scoop, which also features polycarbonate glazing. The front wings are carbon fibre and finished with ventilating louvres. There are unique five-spoke LM wheels that echoes the design of the winning number-59 F1 GTR wheels and which also feature 'Le Mans' etching. Oh, and there are gold-coloured brake calipers, and gloss black accents.

Inside, you can choose from Alcantara upholstery in McLaren Orange or 'Dove Grey.' There are carbon-fibre racing seats with the 'McLaren 25 anniversary Le Mans' logo embroidered into the headrests, and a 12-o'clock steering wheel marker. Even the floor mats get the 'McLaren 25 anniversary Le Mans' logo.

The aero add-ons - the roof scoop and the front wing louvres - reference the original F1 GTR but they're also fully functional. The scoop feeds cooling air to the engine bay, while the louvres reduce aero lift at the front of the car.

0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds

The mid-mounted M840T 4.0-litre McLaren engine, a V8 with twin turbos, is unchanged from standard, but that still means 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds, and a top speed of 341km/h.

If all of those special Le Mans anniversary bits aren't enough for you, then McLaren's MSO (McLaren Special Operations) department will happily change and repaint parts of the car to your heart's (and wallet's) content. Options include gloss carbon fibre finishes and a six-point racing harness.

The McLaren 720S Le Mans will start deliveries in September, and the price for the UK market is STG£254,000.
