Toyota doubles safety reward

Toyota offers double points for its 'FaceItDown' road safety app.

Toyota Ireland has joined forces with the Road Safety Authority (RSA), FBD Insurance, Q-Park and Circle K Ireland, to encourage and reward drivers for not using their mobile phones while driving.

The app, which Toyota Ireland developed for the Irish market in 2017, offers rewards to drivers who choose not to use their phones whilst driving. Impressively, the app is free for all drivers, not just those driving a Toyota.

Double points

By downloading the app and having their phone face down while driving, users can earn one reward point for every kilometre they drive safely, and Toyota is offering double points from the 15th of June to the 10th of July to coincide with the recent increase in traffic on our roads as the Covid-19 restrictions continue to be lifted.

RSA figures show us that we are four times more likely to be involved in a crash if we are on a phone call while driving. This figure jumps to a frightening 23 times more likely to crash if we are texting while driving, and the RSA estimates that driver distraction plays a role in 20-30% of all road collisions in Ireland.

Spending those points

FDB Insurance is offering a €50 discount off car insurance in exchange for 1,500 reward points; Q-Park will give you €2, €3 or €4 off parking in exchange for 250, 400 or 550 points; and Circle K will give you a free hot drink in exchange for 350 points.
