New Mercedes S-Class arrives with price reduction

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has gone on sale and offers improved fuel economy and a lower price.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has gone on sale and the big news is that the car is now offered at a lower price than the model it replaces.

First to arrive is the 235hp S 350 CDi, which costs €98,600, a massive €12,400 less than the previous S 320 CDi. The new model has CO2 emissions of 199g/km putting it in Band F, with road tax of €1,050 per year.

There are some visual changes to the new car, such as a redesigned grille and bumper, new rear lights and the addition of a chrome strip below the front air intake. Other new features include the addition of LED lights with daytime running lights and bi-xenon headlights now as standard.

Safety standards have been improved with features that include new camera and radar based driver assistance systems, speed limit assist, drowsiness detection and adaptive high beam assist.

Mercedes-Benz Sales Manager in Ireland, Ciaran Allen sees the new S 350 CDi BlueEFFICIENCY bringing added impetus to Mercedes-Benz sales on top of the success being achieved by the C-Class and new E-Class BlueEFFICIENCY ranges:

"Though our volume expectation is significantly lower than the heady days of 2007 when some 400 units were sold, we expect the new S 350CDi to achieve sales approaching 100 units in a full year, a figure that will improve further as our economy strengthens."
