New car or older BMW 520d?

The question
Hi lads,
Would you buy a 08/09 BMW 520d or a new car of another make for the same value? If your answer is the BMW would they be expensive to run?

Hi Jim,
To be honest, if you are very worried about running costs then don't buy the BMW. Once they get older, especially the previous 5 Series, they can be quite troublesome so you might be wise to spend your money on a more mainstream car with a watertight warranty.
There is no such thing as cheap BMW ownership, ever, so bear that in mind.
