How economical is the new Hyundai Tucson HEV?

The question

What is the likely fuel consumption of the HEV version of the new Hyundai Tucson, and what is the pure electric range?

Expert answer

Hi Stephen,

First up, the pure electric range is unlikely to be quoted by Hyundai for the hybrid model (as opposed to the plug-in-hybrid version, which has a much larger battery). It has a very small battery designed to assist at low speeds mostly and for very short periods of time. It isn’t the norm to quote a pure electric range for such hybrids.

The official fuel consumption has yet to be confirmed by Hyundai, though it has said it is targeting 118-130g/km for the front-wheel-drive HEV. That would loosely translate to petrol consumption of 5.1-5.6 litres/100km.
