Can I change the seating in my California T6.1?

I think I understand what you mean: you’d like to leave a clear corridor behind the driver’s seat for easier movement, while keeping enough of the rear seating to sit or stretch out on.

It may be possible, but it depends on the exact version of your California T6.1 and its seating arrangement. The rear bench runs on floor rails, so its position can be adjusted, while some California versions also have individual removable rear seats. However, the standard two-seat bench itself can’t be split into two separate single seats.

If you mean replacing the two-seat bench with a single seat to create a permanent passage on the left-hand side, that would be a more substantial conversion. We’d recommend speaking to a Volkswagen California specialist or reputable camper-conversion company, as any replacement seat and its mounting would need to be properly approved for use while travelling.
