Do I need my car's registration book for the NCT?

The question

I have mislaid my vehicle registration book which I need for the NCT. Will a copy of the RF134 signed by a Garda do?

Hi Aine,

As you know, the RF134 form signed and stamped by a Garda is the form you use to apply for a replacement registration certificate, rather than a substitute for the certificate itself. The NCT advises motorists to bring the original vehicle registration book/certificate or licensing certificate with them to the test, so I wouldn’t rely on the RF134 being accepted instead.

You should submit the RF134 to your local Motor Tax Office to obtain the replacement certificate and change the date of the NCT to later, when you will hopefully have received the new cert.
