Why do we still have tax, insurance and NCT discs on our windscreens?

Hi,
Will we ever get to the stage where there is no longer the requirement to display tatty bits of paper in our windscreens tax, insurance and NCT) just like the UK?
It seems slightly ridiculous that in this digital age we are still required to clutter the windscreens of our ultra-modern looking electric cars and any other car for that matter.

We agree completely. Thankfully, a light is appearing at the end of the tunnel. Read our piece from last year: No more motor tax discs in your windscreen. But of course, as things like this take forever in Ireland, there appears to not have been any further progress since April 2025…
