Should an Auris use oil between services?

The question
I have a 2010 Toyota Auris. It used two litres of oil between services, Toyota rebuilt the engine and it's still using oil. Is this normal?

2 - How long in time and kilometres were between the services?
3 - Who decided to rebuild the engine and why?
4 - What exactly was rebuilt?
5 - What's the total mileage on the car?
